JOB DESCRIPTION – DIGITAL MEDIA&COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT

                                              

Location: Butanuka, Bujumbura-Burundi

Duration: 2 years (including 3 months’ trial period).

 

About Dreaming for Change and Position overview

Dreaming for Change (D4C) is a family-centered nonprofit organization based in Burundi that empowers disadvantaged children, families, and communities to overcome poverty, illness, and inequality. Guided by our mission to promote human dignity and social development, we provide integrated services in education, health and nutrition, agriculture and food security, entrepreneurship, and child protection. We operate a community school, a nutrition center serving hundreds of children each year, a community farm school promoting sustainable agriculture, and a financial empowerment program reaching women and girls through savings groups and small enterprise support.

We’re currently recruiting the Digital Media & Communications Assistant to support the organization in producing creative and engaging visual content. This includes photography, video editing, and graphic design for newsletters, reports, and social media. The role is ideal for a young professional passionate about digital storytelling and social impact.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

·       Capture and edit high-quality photos and short videos of D4C’s programs and events.

·       Design visual materials such as newsletters, flyers, and infographics.

·       Support website and social media updates with photos and visual content.

·       Assist in drafting captions and short stories for digital platforms.

·       Organize and maintain D4C’s media library.

·       Collaborate closely with the Donor Relations & Partnership Manager to ensure brand consistency across all channels.

 

Education / Qualifications:

 

·     Diploma or certificate in communications, multimedia, journalism, IT, or a related field.

·     Strong interest and talent in photography, videography, and digital content creation.

·     Basic ability to communicate in English and good communication skills in Kirundi or French.

·     Creative mindset with attention to detail and good storytelling instincts.

·     Familiarity with multimedia tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Canva, or similar.

·     Ability to learn quickly, take feedback, and work independently or in a team.

·     Good interpersonal skills to interact professionally with colleagues and community members.

 

Professional Experience & Technical Skills

·       At least 2 years of practical experience in photography, videography, graphic design, or digital media (experience from creative studios, community projects, or freelance work is accepted);

·       Experience producing photos, short videos, or visual content for social media or community organizations;

·       Basic to intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office required);

·       Practical skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, InDesign, Audition) or equivalent (ex: Canva).

·       Ability to organize and manage a media library (photos, videos, files).

·       Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow organizational guidelines.

·       Working knowledge of Kirundi and French; basic English is sufficient.
