Title: Distribution Expert 

Location: Bujumbura, Burundi 


Job Purpose: 

The Distribution Expert provides advanced technical and operational expertise across all aspects of Weza Power’s MV and LV distribution systems. This role supports network design, planning, operational optimization, and construction coordination to ensure a resilient, efficient, and scalable grid. The Expert works across the Distribution Division and in coordination with regional and technical teams promotes excellence in system design, fault response, maintenance, and network expansion. The role also strengthens the execution of distribution projects and supports organizational readiness for new service areas.


Key Roles and Responsibilities: 

 Network Design, Planning & Construction Support

  • Contribute to the planning, design, and technical review of MV and LV networks in coordination with engineering and GIS teams.
  • Support the development of standard designs, material specifications, and construction packages.
  • Collaborate with the PIU, Procurement, and Technical Services to ensure timely mobilization of construction and rehabilitation activities.
  • Conduct site visits to verify construction quality, readiness, and adherence to design standards.
  • Advise on staging, sequencing, and operational transition for new feeder rollouts or network upgrades.

Operational Oversight and Technical Support

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to improve MV/LV system reliability and fault handling.
  • Support harmonization of maintenance practices and service restoration strategies across districts and regions.
  • Engage directly with regional teams, and FBBUs to troubleshoot persistent field issues and recommend operational improvements.

Field Performance and Coordination

  • Work with regional and FBBU field units to ensure operational consistency, availability of spare parts, and efficient crew deployment.
  • Offer field mentoring to duty electricians, maintenance supervisors, and network operators on diagnostics and performance best practices.
  • Participate in operational reviews and help address identified technical gaps in the field.

Data Analysis and Technical Reporting

  • Analyze performance data (outages, losses, fault reports, energy flow) to identify trends and guide system improvements.
  • Contributes to the development of dashboards and data visualization tools for field and HQ use.
  • Draft technical briefs, progress reports, and recommendations for management and project stakeholders.

Knowledge Transfer and Capacity Building

  • Contribute to the development of training programs and internal technical manuals.
  • Promote knowledge exchange across field teams and support the professional development of technical staff.
  • Provide coaching on SCADA systems, metering integration, GIS, and network mapping tools where relevant.

  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement and cross-departmental collaboration

  • Adaptable, solution-oriented, and proactive in complex environments


Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical field (required)
  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, or Utility Management is an asset
  • At least 7 years in power distribution, including operational support, network planning, and field implementation
  • Field-based experience with MV/LV networks in utility or donor-funded projects
  • Experience working in construction coordination and operational commissioning is strongly preferred
  • Licensed Electrical Engineer or equivalent accreditation
  • SCADA, AMR, energy loss analysis, or outage response certification is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral, in both French and English.
