Job Title: ICHA Malaria Technical Advisor

Bujumbura – Burundi

International Programs- General/ Regular, Full-Time / Hybrid

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Malaria Program Director will be responsible for the overall management and implementation of the PMI program in Burundi. This individual will provide technical leadership and guidance to the program team, oversee program implementation, and manage relationships with key stakeholders, including the government of Burundi, USAID, and other partners. The ideal candidate for this role should have previous experience with PMI programs. This is a full-time position based in Burundi, with frequent travel within the country and occasional travel outside of Burundi. The position is contingent upon award of the USAID five-year award and funding availability.


Role & Responsibilities

  • • Oversee program implementation and ensure timely delivery of project deliverables.
  • • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including the government of Burundi, USAID, and other partners.
  • • Ensure compliance with all PMI regulations and requirements.
  • • Manage program budget and ensure effective use of resources.
  • • Supervise program staff and ensure high-quality performance.
  • • Identify and manage risks to program implementation and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • • Foster a culture of teamwork, learning, and continuous improvement within the program team.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • • Knowledge of community health systems, community mobilization and engagement, gender and social norms, and behavior change.
  • • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders to achieve results.
  • • Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment across time zones, and at times outside of normal business hours.
  • • Flexibility and openness to redirection and finding solutions.

Requirements

  • • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • • Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, or a related field.
  • • Minimum of 8 years of experience managing complex malaria control programs in a developing country context.
  • • Experience managing PMI-funded programs is required.
  • • Strong knowledge of malaria control interventions, including vector control, case management, and surveillance.
  • • Demonstrated ability to manage program budgets and resources effectively.
  • • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • • Fluency in English and French is required.
  • • Up to 25% domestic and/or international travel required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations
  • • The ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-15 pounds.
  • • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information.
  • • The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • • General office setting. World Relief also offers hybrid and remote schedules for limited positions.
  • • Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in virtual meetings may be required.
  • • Year-end archiving activities involve repeated lifting and bending.
  • • Physical, emotional and intellectual demands
  • • Equipment used: Employee computer (desktop or laptop), printer, and copier.
