ActionAid International Burundi (AAIB) based in Bujumbura is looking for a committed and inspirational professional with a passion for social justice poverty eradication and gender equality. The desired candidate will have demonstrated experience in successfully leading and managing a development programme coupled with an extensive track record in fundraising and grants management.

The organization

(AAIB) was established in Burundi for about 45 years, implementing integrated programmes on Women’s rights, Youth empowerment, Humanitarian response, Resilience building, Food Security and Education through a long-term programming in Local Rights Programmes (LRPs) in Ruyigi, Rutana and Karusi Provinces which are linked to national level engagements in Bujumbura Marie.

Purpose of the position

The Programmes and Business Development Specialist is a Senior Management Position. The position holder is expected to ensure organizational efficiency and effectiveness through participation in decision making processes. S/he will take overall leadership in partnership development and nurturing, resource mobilization as well as provide guidance in the development and implementation of the AAIB country strategy paper.

Qualification & Experience

  • • The ideal candidate should have minimum MBA degree or degree in social sciences, development studies, Project Management, or other related disciplines with at least 5 years of programme management and fundraising experience in a progressive development organization.
  • • Extensive and demonstrative track record of developing and leading a funding strategy and developing external partnerships with a wide range of international institutional donors/ foundations, and philanthropists.
  • • An innovative and strategic thinker with up-to-date knowledge of Human rights-based approach methodologies and techniques including demonstrated expertise in leading Humanitarian and Women’s Rights programming/
  • • Significant grant and project management experience, including a sound understanding of donor compliance requirements.
  • • Proven ability to lead and develop the capacities of multi‐ disciplinary professional teams, including connecting policy &programmes, funding, and communications efforts across an organization.
  • • Sound awareness of the political and socio-economic environment in Burundi and EAC sub-region is desirable.
  • • A feminist leader with a strong commitment to promoting ActionAid’s safeguarding policies.
  • • A strong oral and written skill in English and French is required.
