Position Title : Project Assistant (Communication with the Communities Shelter NFI)

Duty Station : Bujumbura, Burundi

Classification : General Service- G4

Type of Appointment : Special Short-Term contract 6 months with possibility of extension

Organizational Context and Scope:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, and the direct supervision of the Shelter/NFI Officer at IOM Burundi the incumbent will be required to work as a member of a multi sector team which provides Shelter and WASH relief assistance to IDPs, returnees and host communities. The incumbent will contribute to implement and support all ongoing activities related to Shelter/NFI/WASH and will act as Communication focal point for the Shelter/NFI team.


FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:


Assist with the implementing activities achieving project objectives on time and to a high standard.

2. Provide support to the team with regards to payment, procurement requests, Travel Authorization.

3. Compile and send all justification needed to procurement and finance in a timely manner after activities implementation in collaboration with colleagues in the field

4. Provide general support to the supervisor in the development of AAP SOPs and tools to be implemented during Shelter, NFI and WASH activities

5. Liaise with other IOM programs’ counterparts.

6. Act as the communication and AAP focal point for the SNFI team

7. Collect data and keep records of field assessments linked to the project on a timely manner.

8. Facilitate the communication with communities at field level through the organization of training

sessions and sensitization sessions.

9. Act as the Data protection focal point for the team ensuring that IOM data protection guidelines are implemented during all activities

10. Undertake duty travel as required.

11. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Science, communication, or any discipline with two years of relevant

experience in the humanitarian aid field; or;

• High School degree in above field with four years of relevant professional experience

• Experience in community mobilization or other relevant subject; knowledge and training in

communication – or equivalent combination of education, training & experience

• Very good knowledge of computer tools.

• Personal commitment, efficiency, flexibility, and motivation.

• Strong ability to work alone and harmoniously with a group.

• Good writing and communication skills.


Languages

• Knowledge of Kirundi, French and English (Oral and Written)
