The Opportunity: Admin and Finance Assistant

About the Role: 

The purpose of this role is to support Field Offices within the financial and Administration operation function that will enable the team to deliver efficient and compliant financial management support to the entire Burundi program. 


The Admin and Finance Assistant will primarily aim to maintain cash and cheque pads in a secured safe box and replenish them as per the organization's policy. Ensure that disbursements made to partners, suppliers, and staff are initiated by an appropriate source document and authorized and approved by Budget Holders within the Scheme of Delegation. Check and ascertain the accuracy and validity of documents against SCI policies and procedures that expenditures incurred are allowable, allocable, and reasonable; ensure all payments are processed as per SCI financial guidelines, regulations, and internal financial controls relating to disbursements in an efficient and effective manner. The Admin and Finance Assistant will also provide accurate financial information by preparing, recording, and reconciling financial transaction data, verifying partner reports, and providing necessary feedback and support, maintaining bank correspondences, and filing bookkeeping and filing. The role holder will also Provide general administrative support to Field Office.


In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Qualifications and experience 

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in financial management, accounting, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Professional qualification i.e. CPA, CA, or ACCA is an added advantage
  • Computer literate (i.e., WORD, advanced Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, financial systems such as AGRESSO
  • 2-3 years of work experience, preferably in an NGO setup.
  • High levels of attention to detail and quality
  • Knowledge of local laws of the country.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills
  • Ability to liaise with a diverse range of people.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.

Desirable

  • Bachelor’s degree in financial management, accounting, business administration, or a closely related field.
  • Experience within the NGO / or sector or Audit firm with financial management responsibility,
  • High levels of self-motivation and initiative


CHILD SAFEGUARDING: 

This position is on Child Safeguarding- Level 3:  The post holder will contact children and/or young people frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work in country programs. Or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.
