Call for Applications – Project Officer
Cord Global is a peacebuilding international non-governmental organisation with administrative headquarters in the United Kingdom and operational teams in Africa and Asia. Cord works to make peace a reality in communities through the power of peaceful relationships.
Cord has contributed to sustaining peace in Burundi since 2005. Currently, Cord’s work in Burundi focuses on social cohesion, psychosocial support, and socio-economic resilience. Cord and its partners are members of a network of organisations implementing “The Peace Project” in Burundi. Their interventions mainly focus on social cohesion, dealing with the past, psychosocial support, mediation, citizen participation, and economic resilience.
To ensure effective implementation of its ongoing projects, including the Peace Project, Cord is recruiting a Project Officer with a University degree in peacebuilding, social sciences, project management, psychology, international development or other relevant fields. Ideal candidates should have at least three years’ experience in peacebuilding-related project coordination and management, including reporting and budget monitoring

Applications should be submitted by email to the Country Representative at dndayikengurukiye@cord.org.uk no later than 16 November 2025 at midnight (Bujumbura time). Applications must include a cover letter and a CV (maximum three pages) with contact details of three referees. Only shortlisted candidates will be requested to provide additional supporting documents.

Since its independence in 1962 Burundi has experienced frequent periods of violent conflict. The root causes of this violence are a combination of:
Poverty
Division and polarisation within and between communities
Unresolved trauma
A lack of trust and cooperation between the government and communities, and
Impunity for crimes committed during the country’s civil war
This has subsequently undermined the country’s social and economic development.
In May 2017, in collaboration with three other international NGOs (Red een Kind, American Friends Service Committee, and Mensen met een Missie) and ten Burundian organisations, Cord launched a new five-year project that is designed to respond to this challenging context, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The name of this new project is Building Bridges in Burundi (BBB), given its focus on bridging the gap between divided communities and helping young people from different backgrounds to flourish.
